What hiring language from 25,000 recent job descriptions tells us about corporate cultural norms.
Textio – an augmented writing platform for job descriptions – recently looked at the most distinctive language used in the job descriptions of ten prominent tech companies. Specifically, they were looking for distinct phrases that not only showed up in these tech companies’ job descriptions, but that showed up way more often than industry averages.
Furthermore, they broke out the results by phrases that tend to lead to a higher proportion of applications from men versus women.
Voice search on the rise.
According to a study by Adobe, voice assistant sales (Amazon Echo, Google Home, etc.) were up 103% YoY. Furthermore, Google says that almost 70% of all queries, both written and spoken, are expressed in natural language. While most of these natural language queries are focused on narrow tasks like checking the weather, news, or looking for information on a very specific topic, this clearly signals a behavioral shift all marketers will have to adapt to.
